Marjorie McKinnon
Marjorie is the founder of The Lamplighters, a movement for recovery from incest and child sexual abuse that emphasizes the importance of REPAIRing the damage. Child sexual abuse is a subject she knows well. McKinnon was raped by her father when she was thirteen, setting off a five year period of sexual and physical violence. She ran away from home at the age of eighteen after a beating by her father that almost killed her and spent the next almost three decades going from one abuser to another before she entered a program of recovery at the age of 45. Half way through recovery she found out that her two older daughters had been sexually abused by her second husband. Her youngest daughter was raped at gunpoint when she was 17. Despite being a non-professional, it was her belief that a program devised by someone who had walked the same road would be a sensitive and pragmatic resource. Loving Healing Press released two of her books in 2008: REPAIR Your Life: A Program for Recovery from Incest and Childhood Sexual Abuse and REPAIR For Kids: A Children’s Recovery Program for Incest & Childhood Sexual Abuse. The children’s book was illustrated by her husband. It’s Your Choice! Decisions That Will Change Your Life was released in 2010 and REPAIR For Toddlers was released in January of 2011 Ms McKinnon is currently doing speaking engagements and looking for an agent for her other books. |
