Synopsis: Living in Oshkosh Wisconsin, a small city in the East Central part of the state in the 40’s and 50’s, proved an earnest location to raise a family for Grace and Ralph Bollom. But asking their grown children what they remember most about their youth, Lola Bollom Schroeder and William Bollom both agree that their family cottage “the Old Shanty,” was the essence of their childhood.

As a tribute to their father, whose special brand of spirituality affected their lives and beliefs so strongly, brother and sister independent writers, Lola and William, compiled their family stories in A Speck in God’s Eye.

“Shanty life had the biggest influence on our lives,” says Lola. The Old Shanty was where the Bollom family would spend their weekends, share in togetherness, and sit around the table and talk for hours. As time went by, the children became adults - William became a professor living and teaching in Europe, Asia and Africa, and Lola became a farm wife, and drove a school bus for 25 years.

This unique collection of humorous and adventurous stories takes readers back to a simpler time where the love of family produced the best kind of people. Where strong bonds between parents and children build the foundation to overcome all adversities in life, and where every child discovered a joy and appreciation for the beauty of this world – this little speck in the infinite universe.

A Speck in God's Eye received 1st Place in the Reader Views Literary Awards – Nonfiction Memoir/Biography/Autobiography category.
